Rev. Zach Bay became Pastor of Fifth Avenue Baptist Church in February 2026, following twelve years as Pastor of First Baptist Church of Middlesboro, Kentucky. Before that, Zach served as the Maddox Pastoral Resident at Northside Drive Baptist Church in Atlanta, GA, immediately following his seminary education. Zach has been serving in full-time pastoral ministry since his seminary graduation in December 2010.
Zach’s education is a product of public schools and private Baptist and Presbyterian higher education. He graduated from Mason County Schools, earned a B.A. from Georgetown College (double-major: religion and philosophy; minor: history), and an M.Div. from Mercer University (concentration in academic research in Old Testament). Zach is earning a D.Min. at Columbia Theological Seminary (concentration: pastoral theology and leadership).
He is husband to Rev. Kristy Bay, Ed.D., and father to Eleanor and Elliot. Kristy and Zach met while in seminary together at Mercer University. Kristy grew up in Glen Ellyn, IL, a suburb of Chicago, and Eleanor and Elliot were both born in Middlesboro, KY. Zach’s parents and brother continue to live in Maysville, and Kristy’s parents and siblings now live in the Asheville, NC, area.
Zach believes deeply in the local church and loves the work of pastoring. He enjoys reading, writing, weight training, hiking, and traveling. He’s been known to play a good video game series, enjoy smart sit-coms, geek out on good science fiction, fantasy, and detective stories, relish a good play or musical, and quote line-for-line The Andy Griffith Show.
